When does it mean when someon says they are speechless?

I recently wrote a poem to a friend expressing how I felt about him and what he means to me over the phone and I noticed when I finished he was quiet. then he said dang and wow and that he was speechless. is this usually a negative thing when someone is speechless? Does it mean their was something wong with my poem? at first we were angry with each other but then have been talking again since I read it.
